United Nations has declared today October 11, 2012 as the 1st International day of the Girl child. I'm proud that our great country has taken the lead in supporting this day. As a woman and mother of 2 young women this resonates in our home as a day to be proud of who we are and who we have always taught our girls to be - Strong, independent women. We are thankful to live in a country where girls have a right to be educated...Unfortunately, this is not the case in many countries around the world. Girls are not allowed the right to an education, which would help them and their families to rise out of poverty. This initiative is to try and make it a priority of nations to educate girls around the world.
