What Happens If My Realtor Is Away When I Need Them?

What Happens If My Realtor Is Away When I Need Them?

If your Realtor is away when you need them, the honest answer is that it depends entirely on how their business is set up, and this is one of the most overlooked questions buyers and sellers ask before it is too late. A solo agent on vacation, at a family event, or simply unreachable for a weekend can leave you stuck exactly when a decision needs to move quickly.

This is one of the quieter reasons people choose to work with a team instead of a single agent. At Balance Real Estate Group, every client has a main agent they work with directly, and Bettina Reid is always a second point of contact outside of that. If your agent is away, someone else on the team steps in, and if Bettina is away, the team takes turns covering, with Kara Berman in charge. Nobody is ever the only person who can answer your call.

What makes this work in practice, rather than just in theory, is that every call, email, and text gets logged in the team's shared client system. So if Kara or Rachael Halatsis steps in for a question while your main agent is unavailable, they already have the full history of your file. You are not stuck explaining your situation from scratch to someone who has never heard of you before.

I think about this a lot because selling or buying a home in Cloverdale, Langley, South Surrey, or White Rock rarely happens on a convenient schedule. Offers come in on weekends. Inspection questions come up in the evening. A buyer's financing hiccup does not wait until Monday. Clients deserve to know someone is reachable, even if it is not the specific person they have been talking to the whole time.

This matters just as much after an offer is accepted as before one comes in. Inspection negotiations, subject removal deadlines, and last-minute paperwork rarely wait for business hours. Knowing that someone on the team can step in if your main agent is unreachable for a few hours gives most clients real peace of mind during the part of a transaction that tends to feel the most stressful.

This does not mean your relationship with your main agent matters less. It means it is backed up. Most of my long-term clients work with the same agent across more than one move, because that relationship and the history behind it is worth protecting. The team structure is there for the moments that cannot wait, not as a replacement for knowing your agent well.

If you have ever hesitated to start the conversation about moving forward because you were not sure who would actually be there for you, that is a fair question to ask before you commit to anyone. Understanding your position should not depend on whether one specific person happens to be available that week.

If this is something you have wondered about before working with a Realtor, it is worth asking directly. Bettina Reid and the team at Balance Real Estate Group would be glad to walk you through exactly how coverage works, so you know what to expect before you need it.
