Why not, there`s a day for everything else. Why not recognize left handed people. This is actually the 23rd anniversary of the day! What a great idea to help bring awareness for left handers.
There`s even a website devoted to this day, that offers some great tips and advice on how to help educate teachers on how to help left handers in the classroom. Many of these tips can be carried out in the home and daily life of a left handed person.
Couldn`t be prouder to be a Canadian than today watching the closing ceremonies for the London 2012 summer Olympics! Watching Christine Sinclair hold our Canadian flag proudly as she marched in alongside the other nations from around the world. We couldn`t have had a better choice to represent our country.
Congratulations!!! to all our Canadian Olympians whether medal winners or not. They have all shown such great sportsmanship and give our children amazing people to look up to!
Growing up in Ontario, thunderstorms were a regular summer occurrence. I used to love watching the lightning and listening to the thunder crack in the sky. I was never afraid of them, maybe because my grandmother used to say that "God was bowling (which was why we could hear thunder as the ball rolled down the lane) and every time the lighting struck...he literally got a strike and knocked down all the pins." The stories people tell...:)
My grandmother always lived in an apartment building and we were always told to stay away from the windows. But with being up higher the view was spectacular and we loved to watch as the storm came in. We would count down the time between the strike of lightning and the crack of thunder. The closer they were together the closer the storm was.
I love living in beautiful British Columbia, but there will always be a few things I miss about Ontario and thunderstorms are one of them. It was something else to listen to the storm coming in, catching the flash of lightning and listening to the loud cracks of thunder.
My poor pooch on the other hand was terrified of the thunderstorm and glued to us all night! :)
I heard today too that the thunderstorm was truly a rare thing for BC, happening only once in a decade like the storm we had last night. I look forward to the next one whenever that might be! :)
It's that time of year again, where the local blueberry fields are abundant with that delicious blue fruit. Just about everywhere you go in the lower mainland you can find someone selling blueberries at a fruit stand.
If you are looking for something fun to do with the family. This weekend, Saturday August 4th, marks the 9th annual Blueberry Festival in downtown Cloverdale with lots of great activities and fun for everyone. From the Surrey Show and Shine for the car enthusiasts, to pie eating contests, arts and crafts and so much more.

Here in Canada we are proud of our Canadian athletes and the 4 medals that have been won so far. Our very own White Rock has an Olympic Bronze medal winner from today's women's weight lifting event - Christine Girard. It's amazing to see the strength and courage that all the athletes portray. But to see the actual strength it took to lift 133kg and 103kg in Christine's weight lifting events, she truly worked hard for that Bronze.
Our eldest decided when she was 4 years old that she wanted to play soccer and even though we missed out on it that year she started her 1st season the year she turned 6. Ever since, it's been nothing but soccer in our house. Dad played when he was in school but nothing really serious.
Our daughter started off loving Canadian women's soccer and only women's soccer. I used to laugh as Dad wished she would enjoy men’s soccer even just a little bit.
We took her to her 1st Concacaf game in Ottawa where she got to meet her favourite player Kara Lang along with a number of other women's players. From that moment on she wanted #15 to be her number on her teams, just like Kara Lang. She continued to love women's soccer. So much so Dad would let her stay up or even wake her to watch games played in other countries around the world. Then we moved here to BC where she could see her women's national team players on a regular basis as they train here year round in Vancouver. It was pretty amazing at 9 years old she could tell you everything there was to know about women's soccer and the players involved including the best players from other countries.
Not sure if the novelty wore off getting a chance to see our country's top women's players on a regular basis as she did. So much so many of the players knew her by name or would recognize that flaming red hair of hers. But sometime in high school she discovered men's soccer...(I know you're probably thinking it was when she discovered the opposite sex...LOL) Yes, she does admire the good looking male players out there, but she truly is not only a fan of the game but also a high level player herself. She developed a love for FC Barcelona and lost interest in women's soccer altogether. She can still appreciate the game but if given the choice she would choose watching her Barcelona team over our Canadian women anyday.
Dad on the other hand became a huge fan of our Canadian women's team and has followed them with our daughter over the years and even continued to follow them when she stopped. She was given the honour of being a flag bearer with some of her team mates for a few of the games in the CONCACAF tournament being held here over the last week. She has watched the games with her Dad more for the love of the game and because her Dad asked her to. :) This weekend the 2 of them will go to the finals, but still Dad is more excited than she is. :( They will go together and she will have fun watching the game because she knows it so well and because she's with her Dad.
Perhaps if she has a daughter one day she will return to love the women's game!
Tonight as I write we watch and cheer on our Canadian Women's National Team as they compete in the semi-final game vs. Mexico. Go CANADA GO!!!
I came across an article in the Province today that's not very positive for Vancouver residents but I think helps to promote the real estate market for the lower mainland. Vancouver has become less and less affordable for 1st time buyers and young families, as the article put it there's only a few homes to choose from under $300,000. Whereas our communities here in the Fraser valley offer a wide variety of homes to choose from in and around the $300,000 price range from condos to townhomes and occasionally detached homes depending on where in the Valley you are looking. We have come across many buyers in the last couple years that have been looking to get out of Vancouver in order to buy an affordable home. The further into the Valley you go the more home and property you can get for your dollar.
We moved here almost 7 years ago from Ontario to get away from the cold and the snow....-20 C with the windchill is not fun at all. It wasn't back east and it's no better here in BC. Then to add another 10-15cm that we are expected to get, and to top it off with freezing rain. All I can say now is ....Drive careful, if you don't have to go anywhere tomorrow it might be a good idea to stay home and make it a long weekend!
The Bank of Montreal recently came out with a 5year fixed rate of 2.99%. The lowest we have seen from Canadian banks. A few of the other major banks are looking at matching the rate or offering something similar.
We have had a number of people asking us about what we think. Everyone should be very careful before getting too excited about the rate and make sure they sit down with their mortgage specialist and ensure they go over ALL the details. There are a number of restrictions and I always caution getting involved with so many restrictions as you never know what the next 5 years will bring.
If you want more information about this rate. Please give us a call and we would be happy to refer you to a mortgage specialist who can help.
Residents of #Surrey can expect to pay when inquiring about properties.
This will mainly affect Realtors and others in the housing industry. As a realtor in order to our due diligence we will inquire about properties whether for Sellers or Buyers in order to verify information. What has previously been a free service is soon going to cost us.
As of Feb.15, 2012 everyone will have to pay $18 when looking to find out the age, square footage or final occupancy date of a piece of property. As well as having to pay for a copy of the Survey certificate.
We can understand the need to cover the city's costs as far as Survey certificates and perhaps could even handle a small charge for the other information. But $18 seems like they are gouging us. Recently I was pulling information and survey certificate from the city of #Abbotsford and was shocked that we were being charged $35 for a survey certificate. Even though we are paying less here in Surrey, I still think it is too much. Whereas the Township of #Langley still offers free information....how long before it will cost us there too?
I want to give a special thank you to Yvonne and the rest of her staff from Malary's fashion network in #Cloverdale. She was kind enough to open up her shop for myself and a few friends, family and colleagues. We all enjoyed ourselves and came out with a few great new pieces from her shop to add to our wardrobe. But I think the hit of the night was learning and then experiencing Yvonne's "Tab bras".
I don't know know how many times over the years that I have had conversations with friends and family about how our bras are uncomfortable or dig into our shoulders or how the straps drive us crazy because they are always falling off our shoulders....
Well everyone one of us were fitted for the "Tab bras" and we all watched each and every one of us come out of the changeroom a transformed woman. Literally everyone got an immediate lift, that only cost them the price of the bra....lol Some were amazed at the difference, others noticed a change int heir breathing, it truly was an exciting experience.
The reason I arranged this evening with Yvonne was because of the design and benefits of the "Tab bra". They are designed without elastics or underwire. They will not shift and the straps won't fall off your shoulders. They are available for women of all sizes big or small. From 28" - 42" and up to cup size KK. Most shops I have seen before wouldn't even do a fitting for a small breasted woman. These bras are designed for women of all sizes. They are also considered a medical orthopedic bra for women with prothesis after having had a mastectomy.
Aside from everything else one of the main reasons I wanted the bra was to help improve my posture by relieving the strain on my back and neck. I cannot say enough good things about them and already feel great wearing my new bra!
If you are looking for a place to get a good fitting check out Malary's in #Cloverdale and ask about the "Tab bra" in the mean time visit their website for more detailed information. http://tabbra.com/index.html
